PTT Gives Back to Nature with Gas Up for a Tree
Environmental stewardship is an important part of building stronger and more sustainable communities. Through the Gas Up for a Tree initiative, PTT Philippines took a meaningful step toward restoring forest areas. The project was carried out from 2011 to 2013 in Kanawan, Morong, Bataan, within the Bataan National Park. PTT Philippines adopted a 1,500-hectare ancestral land area and transformed sections of it into a site for long-term reforestation. Over the course of the three-year program, approximately 30,000 fruit-bearing trees were planted, helping revive areas previously dominated by cogon grass and restore natural forest cover. The initiative also brought together a wide range of participants, including employees and officials from PTT Philippines alongside representatives from the Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA), Bataan Technology Park Inc. (BTPI), and Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU). PTT fuel dealers, local rescue workers from the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, and community medical volunteers also contributed their time and effort to the project. One of the key aspects of the initiative was the involvement of the Aeta community in Kanawan. Their participation ensured that the young trees were properly nurtured through regular watering, clearing, and protection from grass fires. The Gas Up for a Tree program also encouraged participation from motorists. For every P1,000 fuel purchase at participating PTT stations, customers were able to contribute to the reforestation effort, with a tree planted under their name in Kanawan. From thousands of seedlings to a growing canopy, the project marks the beginning of a forest reborn. Each tree planted today helps shape a healthier environment for generations to come.
